DB7 Zagato — 2002
The 2002 DB7 Zagato revived a prestigious tradition begun forty years earlier with the DB4 GT Zagato. Designed in collaboration with Andrea Zagato himself, it was based on the lengthened platform of the DB7 Vantage V12 but received an entirely new body styled by the designers of the Milanese house: the twin bonnet humps in homage to the 1960 original, a distinctive truncated tail and a body surface worked according to the canons of contemporary Zagato styling. The 6.0-litre V12, raised here to 435 bhp, offered slightly higher performance than the standard DB7 Vantage.
Limited to 99 coupé examples — matched by 99 DB AR1 roadsters intended for the American market — the DB7 Zagato was sold out even before its official presentation at the 2002 Geneva motor show, a testament to the immediate appeal this model held for collectors. Its value on the used market has risen steadily ever since, with most examples jealously kept by their original owners. It foreshadowed the future Zagato collaborations on the Vantage and the V12 Vantage.
